The strategic programme is based on the following underlying principles:
Working for the business world (primarily that of Asturias) and more specifically for industrial companies. All our activities focus on increasing competitiveness in this sector, since we are aware of the key role that R&D plays in this respect and that Asturias (0.64% GDP) lags behind Spain (1.03%), Spain behind Europe (2%) and Europe behind the most advanced countries (3-4%) in terms of investment in innovation.
As one of the pillars of R&D in an industrial firm, this activity is to be fostered in all its facets. PRODINTEC should be a reference for all the various "trades" (graphic design, industrial design, engineering, marketing, etc.) currently involved in product design, though not in an integrated manner. The services we provide to firms aim to place the most advanced technologies in this field at their disposal.
This is a concept that has been identified as being an important deficiency in our industries at a national level, and is hence the main goal of production technology activities, another of the pillars of R&D.
Another of our main goals is to constitute a reference for technology transfer to business/industry in Asturias, where firms may receive advice and training principally in the fields of design and production. While not renouncing the future capacity to develop our own technologies, we consider it sufficient at the moment to take stock of and become acquainted with what already exists in order to apply it successfully.
In order attract the attention of clients and of sources of funding, we must first possess differential features that characterise us. In order to optimise the use of resources, we must be aware of available technologies and services at a local, regional and even national level so as not to pointlessly duplicate efforts.
Although globalisation also affects R&D, Asturian firms are reluctant to embark on internationalisation ventures despite the fact that international relations are in fact maintained at a commercial level (purchases and sales). The most important sources of funding available in these forums encourage venturing along these lines, in addition to the technological improvements that may be acquired in doing so.
Alongside its commitment to its clients, PRODINTEC gets truly involved in all the activities it develops. The tools and design and process methods we possess enable us to take firms “by the hand” so that they may acquire “hands-on” experience of the technologies to be transferred.
One of our commitments is the creation of wealth in Asturias both when acquiring equipment and resources as well as when applying and acquiring knowledge. However, the door is always open at PRODINTEC to clients and suppliers from other autonomous communities, since competition is a basic requisite for self growth.
