The Principality of Asturias lies in the north, on the Bay of Biscay coast, framed between the Peaks of Europe to the south and the river courses of the Eo in the west and the Deva-Cares to the east. The narrow strip between the mountains and the sea, barely 55 Km, includes a wide variety of landscapes and great contrasts. Asturias´ mountains form a physical frontier not only in a geographical sense, but also in terms of communications, culture or history.

With a humid, mild climate, Asturias has a great variety of flora and fauna, and contains autochthonous protected species of considerable ecological value. This variety means that, in a short period of time, it is possible to visit areas as different as the Bay of Biscay, all along the region´s coast, or the high mountains, particularly the Peaks of Europe, in the south-eastern part of the region.
Visitors can explore quiet, secluded spots. They can discover local ethnography and take a step-by-step journey through the marks left by different peoples over the time: pre-historic caves, Pre-Romanesque, Romanesque, Gothic, etc. They can relax in the tranquility of the beaches, rivers lakes, forests and mountains, and enjoy the bustle of the cities, with a varied offer in culture and leisure.
